91% of recycled plastic is sent to landfills, this is why... It's not profitable to recycle plastic. Recycling facilities send plastic to landfills because they lose money trying to recycle it. Scientists say that it's actually better to throw plastic directly in the trash so that it requires less trucking to get to the landfill.
